How seriously do people take the seven deadly sins?

People don't take them seriously at all. Look around you! Look at the world. People don't care. And yes, it does mean in excess. Being proud of your child for learning to tie his shoes is not a deadly sin. Being insanely proud and doing everything for appearance and what people think of you is.
