Was the fifth amendment meant to protect Americans or to make us victims...?

I do not like the idea of the mosque. But I fail to see how the Fifth has any relevance to the issue. Perhaps you can illuminate us. The Fifth is a protection against self incrimination. It has nothing to do with religious freedom.
